About Marie Carmichael

Marie is a strong, pragmatic investigator and HR practitioner, with expertise in employment investigations, statutory reviews, and safeguarding.

In her 32-year career as a police officer Marie investigated a number of criminal matters including sexual offences, domestic abuse, child abuse and vulnerable adult abuse. She utilised some of these skills to conduct statutory reviews and workplace investigations whilst working in the Professional Standards Department.

She is adept at conducting impartial and independent investigations in relation to discriminatory behaviour, sensitive issues, workplace harassment and sexual harassment, disciplinary matters, absenteeism, performance issues and grievances in the workplace.

Marie is qualified in Further Education teaching and facilitated training. She has in-depth experience of working with trade unions, public and business sectors along with previous involvement in high-profile allegations and investigations.

Marie is very experienced at gathering evidence, conducting interviews and producing comprehensive reports. She has significant knowledge of giving evidence in criminal courts, Coroner’s enquiries, disciplinary hearings and appeals and employment tribunals. Marie has also presented at muti-disciplinary meetings and statutory review panels.

Marie is able to conduct a review of processes to identify areas that are contributing to issues within the workplace and provide recommendations if required.
