A young female employee disclosed to her mother that she had been receiving unwanted attention from an older male manager. Her mother contacted her employer and made a complaint.
The young female was very reluctant to divulge any information as she had recently joined the company and that she felt she would not be believed as she felt it was “one word against another”. The employer also had historic concerns of a similar nature about the behaviour of the male manager, but these had not resulted in any disciplinary action, due to reluctance of staff to engage with any process. There was a perception that he was very close to senior managers and would therefore be protected.
